It’s 5:13 and we’re sat at the gate waiting to board our plane and MAN has it been a journey to get here.
We were meant to be going to Lanzarote. a beautiful Canary island. We booked it May 2020- wishful thinking at that time but we didn’t think quite this wishful. We were hopeful for a long time. Right up until last Monday we really were sure things were okay and then the flights went. And the year long dream went.
But being a family who prep for the worst sometimes, there was a backup plan to book somewhere last minute on the green list so we don’t have to isolate after and don’t risk cancellation to the same extent.
So we rebooked Monday evening, 10pm. And now we’re flying off to Minorca. Very exciting.
But there’s a few things to have in place- as you’d expect with a holiday to anywhere currently. A correct PCR test which if you book properly can be reasonable but you really want to research it all first. Then the Passenger destination form. I have no idea what that one included but it was filled out for me. All of this has to be sorted and probably for your peace of mind (maybe just my dads) printed in a nice plastic wallet all together to make it easy for you and check in to ensure all paper work is there.
And now here we are. Sunday hasn’t ended so far, we left at 10:30 so most of us are pulling this crazy all nighter, driving to the car park, I left one earphone in the car already- the one ear I can get it into with my piercings, whoops! Then a bus to ourselves since it was midnight, then a couple of hours waiting round the airport- watching Moana and attempting to sleep, before checking in with the tense moment as she checked all our documents so we are safe to travel.
From there the standard couple of hours waiting, before Wetherspoons opened and we ran for breakfast at 4am (surprisingly no alcohol landed on our table) and then sitting round waiting.
So here we are , masks on, waiting, ready to get away from the mopey grey rains going on outside to head into the sunny Balearic island of Minorca.
Any questions about travel right now, I may not be much help but feel free to ask and see what you’re getting yourself into! It’s all ran so well and carefully so you have nothing to worry about.
